Elementary School Lesson Plans

Overview

Developmental science tells us that early elementary students are building up their perspective-taking skills and learning how to consider the needs of others. These developing skills are necessary as children grow to become justice-oriented citizens. They must understand others' needs in order to make informed, inclusive decisions. With this in mind, we focused on creating materials that further develop these skills. Our elementary school lessons provide students with the opportunity to consider the needs and perspectives of people who have been marginalized because of their racial-ethnic identities. Students will also be able to identify ways to support people who have been marginalized.

All lessons include:

  • key words
  • sample language
  • discussion questions
  • scaffolded writing prompts.
