Summary

This book explores the resiliency of the unstoppable inventor, Garrett A. Morgan. Garrett is born into a Kentucky family of formerly enslaved people, who work as sharecroppers in the South. With each issue that arises within his impoverished family, Garrett seeks to create innovative solutions to solve the problems. As he gets older, he leaves the South during the Great Migration and begins a new life in Cleveland, Ohio. After noticing how belts that break at his job frustrate workers, Garrett invents a belt tightener that speeds up productivity! He rises through the ranks and becomes his company’s first Black machinist. After leaving this job, Garrett remains committed to improving the lives of citizens in his community. Garrett again proves unstoppable when he uses his wit to combat racial discrimination. He goes on to invent and innovate the gas mask and the traffic light after seeing the issues that everyday citizens face. These inventions save countless lives and are still in use today. Garrett’s life story of resilience, determination, and intellect proves that he is truly unstoppable.
